Always an excellent buy for older Burgundy, we were able to source some more ex-cellar bottles of Ampeau's Sanenots at the exact pricing as our last offer. The wines from Ampeau are becoming relatively rare at reasonable pricing, but we were able to lock in a few more cases, so grab some before more price increases.
One of the untapped sources for Back vintage Burgundy, the older wines from Ampeau are classic wines at very reasonable pricing. We have a wine we haven't offered from Ampeau before, the 1995 Santenots, coming directly from the Domaine cellar in Meursault. Ampeau has an incredible back stock of vintages that haven't moved since bottled. From first-hand experience, it is one of the coldest cellars we have ever been in, making it an excellent environment for keeping wines for a very long time.
While Ampeau has always been known as a white Burgundy producer, winemaker Michel Ampeau fashions some beautiful red wines that are elegant, classic, and show a wonderful typicity. We often talk about how white wine producers can make fantastic reds, and this is a perfect example. Santenots has always been the Domaine's best buys for red Burgundy, and 1995 is an excellent structured vintage for this wine.
This is one of the few '95 Santenots readily available on the market right now and is a wine that is drinking great now.
We have low pricing on this rare find, and for those looking for classic red Burgundy with age or something ready to drink now without paying hundreds or even thousands, this is the wine.
