We were able to get some special pricing on some ex-cellar bottles from Robert Ampeau. We have been huge fans of Robert Ampeau's wines for years, and the 2001 Santenot was has always been one of the best buys from the Domaine. We are happy to offer these bottles all direct from Domaine from one of Burgundy's coldest cellars. Ampeau, while know for his white wines, makes very classic and elegant reds. We often talk amongst ourselves how well white wine producers can make great red wines as well. This is especially true here, the 2001 Volnay-Santenots is a deep soil-driven wine drinking great now, but most of us know Ampeaus wines are built for age. The 2001 Santenots is fantastic Red Burgundy coming directly from the Domaine in pristine condition and is a must for the Burgundy lover.
Vinous (Eric Guido) 93 points! "A mix of dark ripe fruits, cherries, strawberry, plum, rich brown spice, moist soil and savory overtones give the 2001 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru remarkable aromatic depth. On the palate, the 2001 is soft and enveloping, with a nervy citrus/mineral edge driving the dark fruit. The finish is long, with residual acids and inner floral tones that linger."
