2002 Paul Anheuser Kreuznacher Kahlenberg Riesling Spätlese halbtrocken

$29.99
2002 Paul Anheuser Kreuznacher Kahlenberg Riesling Spätlese halbtrocken

We have a late release of the 2002 Paul Anheuser Kreuznacher Kahlenberg Riesling Spätlese halbtrocken, which is a beautiful, mature Nahe Riesling that shows how compelling off-dry German wines can become with age. The Kahlenberg is one of Bad Kreuznach’s important Riesling sites, with loamy, gravelly soils that give the wine both ripe fruit and firm mineral structure. Although this is labeled Spätlese, the halbtrocken style makes it feel mostly dry on the palate and is almost GG-like, with just a tiny amount of residual sugar to add depth and texture, while the outstanding acidity keeps everything fresh and precise. Now with more than two decades of bottle age, it has taken on a great golden color and the classic mature Riesling nuances of honey, citrus peel, dried apricot, spice, petrol, and mineral complexity. This is exactly the kind of cellar find that makes aged Riesling so exciting: the depth of Spätlese-level fruit, the balance of halbtrocken, and the energy to remain lively and food-friendly even after years in bottle. It's a fantastic buy at this price and comes highly recommended!
