We have a fantastic late release of the 2013 Château de Pommard Pommard “Grand Vin,” the estate’s flagship blend from the historic Clos Marey-Monge monopole. We recently tasted it, and it is a great bottle that shows exactly what we look for in mature Pommard: distinctive iron and earthy mineral character, backed by bright red cherry and cranberry fruit, savory spice, and fine, resolved tannins. The 2013 vintage was cool and late, with hail reducing yields, resulting in a more classical, energetic style built on freshness and definition rather than weight. After more than a decade of aging, the wine is entering a beautiful drinking window, with the fruit still very much alive while the savory, earthy complexity of Pommard has begun to emerge fully. Coming directly from the Domaine in excellent condition, this is a rare opportunity to buy properly aged red Burgundy with real terroir character at a fantastic price. Don’t let the classification fool you; this is an excellent mature Burgundy and, with the discount, a fantastic buy!

John Gilman 94 points! "The approximate blend of the 2013 is outstanding and this is clearly going to be a great bottle in the making, as the wine jumps from the glass in a deep and very pure constellation of cherries, red plums, beautiful spice tones, a touch of cocoa, crystalline minerality and a deft framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, tangy and very refined this year, with a fine core, suave tannins and a long, tangy and very energetic finish. Great juice in the making!"
