We were able to source some ex-domaine bottles of Volnay Taillpieds from Bouchard. This isn't a Volnay 1er Cru we often see from Bouchard and is one of the more limited selections from the Domaine. That being said, it's a historic holding and was one of the first vineyards that Bouchard acquired, purchased shortly after Les Caillerets in 1775. The name of the vineyard comes from how steep this site is and how it would hurt the workers' feet when tending the vines. This vineyard is in a great location towards the center of Volnay and is sandwiched between Clos de Chenes and Champans.
2015 is an excellent vintage for Burgundy, and this is a fantastic example of the Taillepieds that is coming directly from Bouchard stock. 2015 is a top example and rare find for this wine, and right now, we have the only bottles available in the USA and at lower pricing than the new releases, making this an excellent buy for the category and something that can be enjoyed now.
Vinous (Stephan Tanzer) 90-93 points! "Bright red with ruby tones. Superripe yet fresh aromas of dark cherry, strawberry jam and dark chocolate. Fat, plush and very concentrated; very ripe and chocolatey in the mid-palate but not a sweet style. With with its huge, dusty tannins and saline minerality, this very dense, long Volnay will need time in the cellar to find its ultimate harmony."
