2016 Feudi di San Gregorio Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine

$39.99
2016 Feudi di San Gregorio Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine
The wines of Taurasi are one of Italy's treasures. Located in Irpinia in southern Italy, a historical region of the Campanian Apennines, Feudi di San Gregorio is one of the biggest and best names in the area. Here, the vineyards grow among the fruit trees, woodland, olive trees, and herbs, making it a rich and biodiverse environment perfect for cultivating some incredible grapes. While Feudi di San Gregorio makes a wide range of wines, the Piano di Montevergine is one of the Estate's best wines and was exceptional in 2016. Made with 100% Aglianico, This vintage is one of the best of all time for this wine and is a lovely display of gorgeous Black fruits, sour cherry, and spice with an inviting and velvety palate that shows elegant tannins, a beautiful mineral backbone, and a long palate staining finish. 2016 is a mesmerizing bottle and one of the best wines Feudi di San Gregorio has ever made. These are quite a bit cheaper than Mastroberardino but are every bit as good, and for the money, an incredible buy. We have low pricing here today on this one, and it's a rare and beautiful example of Aglianico from Taurasi.

Vinous (Eric guido) 95+ points! "Plum sauce, pencil lead, clove, balsamic spice, mint, rosemary, stone dust, rose petals and more... Each time the 2016 Taurasi Riserva Piano di Monte Vergine is tilted in the glass, it seems to reveal further depths. This is simply stunning, casting silken textural waves of tart wild berry fruit, citrus tones and brilliant acidity. Energetic yet still youthfully tense and structured, its web of fine-grained tannins appears late, slowly clamping down as a rosemary and tangerine resonance mingles and fizzles out. The 2016 Piano di Monte Vergine is a classic in the making."

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 95 pts! "An important wine that raised the bar in this storied appellation, the Feudi di San Gregorio 2016 Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine shows well-managed evolution, polished tannins, dark fruit and lots of savory spice and campfire ash. There is some dusty mineral too that adds definition and complexity. The wine ages in oak for up to 24 months and sees another 12 months in bottle."
