2017 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Rully Blanc Vieilles Vignes

$29.99
2017 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Rully Blanc Vieilles Vignes

In our hunt for things with some at a great price, we came across the 2017 Domaine Vincent Girardin Rully Blanc Vieilles Vignes and are happy to report it's a lovely bottle of white Burgundy at this price point. This one comes from Chardonnay vines averaging 40+ years, grown on limestone-rich soils in the Côte Chalonnaise, south of the Cote d'Or. Vincent Girardin has been a figurehead in burgundy for many years crafting terroir-driven wines, after founding his domaine in 1980 at great prices with the white wines being our favorites. He built a reputation for crafting elegant, minimal-intervention Burgundies before selling the estate in 2012, and today Eric Germain is the lead winemaker for the company. We've always loved the 2017 vintage in Burgundy especially for the white wines which have a bit more character than the reds. It was a welcome year, with early flowering, a warm summer, and well-timed rains producing balanced wines with vibrant acidity and pure fruit expression. Minimal new oak, this is beautiful after 8 years of aging showing white peach, lemon confit, green apple, white flowers, honeyed notes, wet stone, and ocean spray, with nice acidity to complement its richness and suave texture on the palate with a dry extract and mineral-driven finish. This is an excellent buy at this price point and something to enjoy now paring perfectly with white fish, shellfish, poultry, soft cheese, or just by itself.
