2008 Pierre Bourée Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Clos de la Justice

$69.99
2008 Pierre Bourée Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Clos de la Justice

We have a bit more of this fantastic Gevrey buy today! Pierre Bourée used to be a regular offering for us back in the day, and was among the best values coming out of Burgundy, especially for the Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice, which is one of the favorites. The 2008 Clos de la Justice comes from the domaine’s walled monopole just behind their cellar in the eastern sector of Gevrey. This stony clay-limestone site naturally expresses excellent fruit and terroir, and is one of the great village vineyards of Gevrey, with this walled section being the best section of the vineyard. Hand-harvested fruit was fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats, gently worked, then aged about 18 months in mostly older French barrels with minimal fining or filtration, keeping the vineyard’s character front and center. The 2008 Côte de Nuits vintage delivered transparency and bright acidity, and it shows here as red cherry and cranberry, rose, spice, and sous-bois over a supple, chalk-tinged frame. Fully mature and beautifully balanced, this is classic, savory Gevrey village from a single enclosed vineyard, drinking at peak now and offering excellent value for clients who want authentic old-school Burgundy without a massive price tag.

John Gilman 90+ In almost every vintage that I can recall, the Bourée Clos de la Justice is one of the best values to be had in Gevrey, as the wine routinely offers fine premier cru complexity and potential longevity, at its customary village wine price. Given that this plot is on the east of the Route Nationale in Gevrey, it always amazes me of the consistent excellence of this vineyard. The 2008 is another fine effort, as it offers up a complex and very classy nose of red and black cherries, grilled meat, coffee, mustard seed and a lovely base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long, closed and beautifully balanced, with fine mid-palate depth, modest tannins and good length and grip on the tangy, soil-driven finish. Classy villages. (Drink between 2015 - 2035)
