Etienne has a deep respect for the terroir of Burgundy and has a wholly traditional approach to winemaking, focusing on healthy, sustainable fruit in the vineyard with a push towards getting certified organic in the future. These are very well-made wines that don't have much exposure outside of France and Europe, but that has kept the pricing down and has made for some incredible deals from the domaine. Corton Renardes is a fantastic vineyard and one of the best red wine sites in Corton located between Le Corton and Bressandes. The domaine has two older parcels in this vineyard that are around 50 years old and produce excellent quality of fruit. While 2018 was a warm vintage, this is incredibly balanced and isn't over the top or heavy on alcohol, showing an excellent sense of place with great purity. This is the ultimate Grand Cru buy from this vintage at the best pricing you'll find for something on this level, and it's also in a great spot to enjoy now with years of life ahead. The vines yielded fairly deep colour yet a surprising purity of fruit, with nicely well-defined plummy aromas and a firm mineral undercurrent. The extraction was elegant, and the texture balanced. Nothing was overdone, and the flavours continued to a pleasantly lingering finish."
