Our favorite address in Sancerre next to Edmond Vatan, the 2018 vintage is another nice one for this wine. In general the Loire Valley 2018's are a little more generous, and forward wines, which should marry well to the Cotat house style. The vines from Les Mont Damnés are over 30 years old, and Francois practices organic viniculture. He uses whole cluster fruit, indigenous yeasts, ferments in very old demi-muids, and ages the wines in old oak barrels. Also sometimes the wines are not fermented completely dry. The result is some amazing age-worth Sancerre’s. We have fond memories of tasting the 2002 Francois Cotat Sancerre Les Monts Damnes at the Le Pot d'Étain restaurant outside Chablis a couple years ago, it was one of the finest we have ever tasted. Francois Cotat’s wines are still fairly priced considering how expensive the Edmond Vatan Sancerres have become. We also have a limited amount of Francois Cotat’s other vineyard bottlings available if interested please inquire.
