2018 Regis Minet Pouilly Fume Vieilles Vignes

$20.99
2018 Regis Minet Pouilly Fume Vieilles Vignes

This wine was a tip from a long-term friend and customer, and what an excellent recommendation it was. This is one of the best expressions of the Sauvignon grape; we have ever tasted for the money. Regis Minet founded the Domaine in 1977 and farms sustainably 10 hectares. Régis’ vineyards are 30+ years old and sit at 750 feet, surrounded by hills on the far east of the Loire River, and centered proudly on the prized limestone and clay of the Kimmeridgian chain. The scattered flint in these vineyards imbues the wines with a character quite distinctive from the neighboring village of Sancerre. The wines are fermented in tank using indigenous yeast and keep there for six months on the fine lees that are stirred 2 to 3 times during this period to which gives the wine more depth and richness. The wine aromas are white flowers, citrus, mineral, apple, and chalk. The palate is incredibly elegant and refined with citrus, apple fruit, and minerality dominating. The result here is truly incredible, and one of the most unadulterated expressions we have ever tasted of the Sauvignon Blanc grape.  For the price, it’s an absolute no brainer and perfect for the warmer spring weather that will soon be here. If you are going to buy one Sauvignon Blanc this year this one is it don’t miss it!
