We are always searching for wine discoveries and are happy to report we found an excellent price-quality Pinot Noir from Central Otago New Zeland. This wine is quite Burgundian in style due to the region and climate it's sourced from also from some whole cluster inclusion. The 2019 Akarua Rua Pinot is sourced from four different vineyards in Central Otago that are all farmed sustainably they are: Bannockburn, Felton Road Terraces, Pisa, and Twenty Five steps. The blending of these four vineyards that average about twenty-five years in age gives the wine an uncanny complexity seldomly seen at this price point. The 2019 growing season for Central Otago was a cool long season where the grapes developed slowly and spent an extended time on the vines resulting in good physiological maturity and lower alcohol levels. This is one of the best Pinot Noir's we have ever sourced from New Zealand at this price point. The aromas are stunning, with red fruits (cranberry, cherry, pomegranate) dominating with incredible minerality, orange zest, and an intriguing floral note. The palate is focused and pure with cool fruit flavors of mulberries, black cherry, underbrush, with nuances of blackberry, clove, and wild thyme. Drinkable now, the example we tasted drank well after being opened for three days. This is the ultimate cellar saver for the avid Pinot Noir lover looking for a more classic Pinot Noir style that won't break the bank and is highly recommended!
