2019 Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Javernieres

$34.99
2019 Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Javernieres
The Desvignes are 8th generation winemakers, their family has been in Morgon since the 1700s. This brother and sister duo are among the top names in Beaujolais, like Metras and Foillard, for high quality, organic, vineyard driven wines, working with some of the most prestigious sites in the appellation. Like the JP Brun we have offered before, Javernieres comes from a Lieu-dit within Cote Du Py that is lower down on the slope. The soils here are denser with more red clay than higher up on the hill where the soils contain much more schist. The Desvignes have some very old vines planted here with an average of 65 years old, with some dating back to 1912. The wines here tend to be more elegant than the rest of Cote Du Py with Desvignes making one of the best with its incredible concentration and structure. A great note from William Kelly below is what excellent Beaujolais is all about, and when it is on, it completes with wines from the Cote d’Or at a much lower cost of entry.

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 94+ points! "Unfurling in the glass with a youthfully reserved nose of raspberries, wild plums, spices, white tea and rose petals, the 2019 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with real concentration, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. Still quite tightly wound after its recent bottling—a matter of weeks before I tasted it—this will, as ever, merit several years in the cellar. At maturity, I suspect the 2019 will be more dynamic than the 2018 rendition, and it will delight admirers of serious cru Beaujolais."
