We were able to taste this wine yesterday, and it's one of the greatest Merlot-based wines we have ever tasted outside of Bordeaux. The vines are from some of the highest elevation parcels on the estate, and this wine is only made in exceptional vintages like 2019. The pedigree and refinement here are extraordinary. Give it a few years in the cellar, and the wine will become the 98-pointer Antonio Galloni is raving about. The production here is tiny, but we were able to procure a few cases arriving this week at this excellent pricing. Don't miss this epic bottle!
Antonio Galloni 98 pts! The 2019 Palafreno, 100% Merlot from Greve's Ruffoli district, is stunning, not to mention one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted here. Silky, plush and exceptionally vivid in the glass, the Palafreno possesses breathtaking beauty that captivates all the senses. At this early stage, the 2019 is all primary dark fruit, but the layers will start to open with cellaring. Readers who can find it should not hesitate. It's a real head turner.
