We have an excellent back vintage of Meursault Charmes from Domaine du Château de Meursault today, which is showing well after a few years in the bottle. This large domaine in Meursault, with a history dating back to the 11th century, has consistently been a strong value, but quality skyrocketed after a major investment and ownership change in 2012. The new owners upgraded winemaking equipment, reduced yields by half, and transitioned to sustainable farming with some organic practices. Charmes is one of the best vineyards in Meursault and is known for its classic limestone soils. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels (30% new) with aging for 12–15 months. While not from the Charmes-Dessus section, it remains one of the top buys for Charmes, benefiting from the warmer, dryer vintage that delivered concentrated wines with excellent balance and aging potential. We have an excellent price for this lovely back vintage, and it's a top buy for the category not to miss!
Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 91-94 points! "Pale lemon in colour. A sun-filled nose without losing balance. This is attractive all the way through but does not kick on immensely beyond what the Clos des Grands Charrons and Terroir d’Exception can offer. Some tannins behind. A sound and typical Charmes, more in purity than intensity"
Burghound 91-93 points! "Moderate reduction again pushes the underlying fruit to the background though there is outstanding freshness and verve on the palate of the medium-bodied flavors that retain lovely delineation on the moderately dry, youthfully austere and complex finale. Very solid quality here."
