An all-time best for this Rheingau producer located in the famous village of Hochheim am Main. Kunstler has been producing wine since1648, and wines from this village were at one point in time some of the most sought after in the world referenced in Shakperian texts and drawing attention from influential people like Thomas Jefferson, who made the voyage to visit this beautiful place. In 1965 the estate was reestablished by Franz Künstler and, with his son Gunter taking over in the 90s. The estate is currently pushing for 100% Organic cultivation and currently farms 11 hectares organically, with other vineyards not seeing herbicide use since 1992. This wine comes from the Stielweg, an Erste Lage or first-class vineyard site located within Hochheim. Planted to 100% Riesling, the vineyard covers a total of 24 hectares, with Kunstler maintaining 4.7. Stielweg comes from an old term meaning "Steep Track," known for its heavy loamy and clayey soils leavened with sand. Here, the vines are over 50 years old, producing rich, long-lived wines with a distinctive, fine-spun elegance. This wine shows excellent presence of fruit, with a classic Riesling character that bridges the gap between richness and intensity with a delicate and balanced character while remaining fresh and energetic. The 2020 Hochheimer Stielweg is an excellent buy for the vintage, and right now, we have very friendly pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA.
James Suckling 97 points! "The flood of aromas washes you clear away with its enormous, peach and apricot power. Everything sits exactly where it should and the overall impression is of near-perfect harmony. Breathtakingly long and silky finish! From organically grown grapes with Fair’n Green certification.
