2020 Alain Chavy Bourgogne Blanc

$26.99
2020 Alain Chavy Bourgogne Blanc
One of the best buys for Bourgogne Blanc in the 2020 vintage, Alain Chavy started in 2003 after splitting his father's vineyard holdings, including some of Puligny's best premier crus, with his brother, Jean-Louis. His wines are refined and structured with excellent vineyard expression, and he has been on a roll the past few vintages with some very impressive wines. Alain also has the deepest underground cellar in Puligny, 18 feet deep, which is uncommon in the village due to a very high water table. This depth causes Alain's wines to ferment and age slower than usual in Puligny, giving them excellent freshness on release.
His Bourgogne Blanc comes from young vines grown within the village of Puligny. The prestige of the fruit here gives the wine a bit more character than the average Bourgogne Blanc with an excellent presence of fruit and minerality, which Alain explicitly looks for in this Cuvee. Limited new oak (10%) here to give a little more edge to the wine without masking its minerality in a combination of 400 liter and traditional Burgundy barrels. 2020 shows excellent ripeness of fruit this vintage, but with the fantastic acidity we know and love from the wines of Puligny with good length and balance. It is a great buy for the category, and we have a few cases available that have just arrived.
