Rajat Parr's new winery features a fresh, exciting Chardonnay from California that echos a lovely Meursault from France. Raj started farming Stolo Family vineyards in 2019 and finished the 2020 we are offering. The Chardonnay vines here were planted over a decade ago, and the soil comprises Marimel-silty-clay-loam. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and located in Cambria, about three miles from the Pacific Ocean. Raj has an incredible palate from being a Somallier for many years, and he thinks this is one of the best regions in California for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The 2020 is a knockout and reminded me of a lovely Meursault. Aromas of marzipan, yellow fruits, and liquid minerals soar from the glass. The palate has lovely apples, pineapple, vanilla notes, and a beautiful salinity. The finish is long and fresh, leaving tons of dry extract on the palate, making you salivate for more. The alcohol comes in at 13.1%, which is perfect for this wine.
