2020 Tenuta di Ghizzano Il Ghizzano Toscana IGT

$12.99
2020 Tenuta di Ghizzano Il Ghizzano Toscana IGT

We just tasted the 2020 Tenuta di Ghizzano Il Ghizzano, and at a special closeout price of just $12.99, it is one of the best-value red wines we have seen, regardless of region. Tenuta di Ghizzano is a historic Tuscan estate near Peccioli that farms organically and biodynamically, and Il Ghizzano is made from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot from estate vineyards. The fruit is hand-harvested with rigorous selection, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and raised in stainless steel and concrete, keeping the wine fresh, transparent, energetic, and unmarked by excessive wood treatment. What surprised us most when tasting the 2020 was just how much structure and seriousness it has for a wine at this price point. There is plenty of ripe cherry and red berry fruit, but also leather, earth, spice, and a distinctly chalky tannic backbone that gives the wine real depth and grip. It drinks like a far more expensive Tuscan red, with enough structure to handle a serious meal but plenty of fruit and freshness to make it immediately enjoyable. At $12.99 today, this is an incredible closeout buy and one of those rare wines you should stock up on by the case, perfect for an upcoming holiday party!

James Suckling 94 points! "A spicy and earthy red with plum and berry aromas that follow through to a medium body with round, soft tannins and a juicy finish. Lots of character and subtlety to this sangiovese. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Lovely now, but will age nicely too. Drink or hold."
