2021 Azienda Agricola La Torre Brunello di Montalcino

$49.99
2021 Azienda Agricola La Torre Brunello di Montalcino

The 2021 Azienda Agricola La Torre Brunello di Montalcino is an exceptional wine at a special low price and a fantastic follow-up to the 2019 we all loved, ranking among the best from this tiny estate. Luigi Anania's father purchased La Torre in the mid-1970s, and today Luigi runs the property, with a little over 5 hectares of organically grown Sangiovese at one of Brunello’s highest points, around 1,500 feet. That altitude is key: cooler conditions and slower ripening translate to purity, elegance, and energy, even in warmer seasons. Luigi focuses on the finest, oldest vines on the property, many dating back to the time the estate was acquired, and the winemaking is firmly traditional, built around careful hand-harvesting, long maceration, and extended aging in large casks, so structure and site character lead rather than oak. The strong, classic-leaning 2021 growing season plays perfectly to La Torre’s strengths, delivering a beautifully balanced and structured Brunello with real intensity and finesse. If you’re a La Torre or just a Brunello fan in general, this is a must-buy, and the 2021 vintage has some serious potential to be one of the best Brunello vintages of all time!

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 95 pts! The organic La Torre 2021 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a fleeting impression of fruit ripeness that quickly gives way to classic Sangiovese complexity marked by grilled herbs, blue flowers and earthy nuance. There is a tactile, skin-driven quality to the palate in this vintage, almost as if tasting the grapes directly at harvest, bringing added crunch, spice and energy. Despite Brunello’s mandatory five years of aging, the wine maintains a vivid sense of freshness, rolling across the palate in a collected and measured manner. Aged in Slavonian oak casks, the tannins are well integrated and supported by just enough acidity to keep the wine moving with precision. Fruit comes from 4.9 hectares of vineyards situated at 420 meters in elevation, helping to preserve balance and a gracefully accessible 13.5% alcohol content. Production is approximately 15,000 bottles, including larger formats.

Vinous (Eric Guido) 93+  Dusty sage and rosemary give way to shaved blood orange and nuances of white smoke as the brooding 2021 Brunello di Montalcino dominates the glass. It is dark and rich on the palate, weightier than anticipated, with depths of ripe red and black fruit over a penetrating core of minerality. The senses are left clenched by youthfully aggressive tannins as the 2021 tapers off dramatically long and structured for the cellar. (Drink between 2029 - 2042)
