While not a typical offer for us, Dominus is one of our favorite Napa wines, and the past few vintages have been knockouts (excluding 2020, which saw damage from fires). 2021 is a triumphant return from one of the great estates of the Napa Valley. Dominus is the work of Christian Moueix, who saw the great potential of the Napanook vineyard nestled in a natural amphitheater at the foot of the Mayacamas mountains on the valley's west side. This site is the location of the first vines George Yount planted in 1838 and is considered one of the best vineyard sites in Napa Valley. The Dominus bottling sees the best and oldest vines of the vineyard, while the remaining is used for their second wine, called Napanook, appropriately. 2021 is an incredible vintage of the Dominus Estate and one of the wines of the vintage for California. This is a more restrained and classic example of Dominus, but it still carries that underlying power that it is known for and will only get better with time in the bottle. It's a contender for one of the best of all time, and we have excellent pricing here today.
Antonio Galloni 98 pts! "The 2021 Dominus is a powerful, tightly-coiled wine that is holding back quite a bit of reserve. There's real depth and resonance waiting to emerge as the wine matures. Floral overtones and bright acids confer energy to a core of red/bluish fruits. Readers will find a Dominus built more on linear precision rather than opulence. It is hugely impressive in this tasting, with a long chalky finish. (Drink between 2031 - 2046)
