This wine has continued to be one of the best buys from Louis Latour but also for Corton Charlemagne and Grand Cru white Burgundy in general. Corton Charlemagne, as many know, is a highly revered vineyard and the Latour's have quite a large portion.
At the end of the 19th century, after being ravaged by Phelloxerya, the Latour family uprooted their Pinot Noir and Aligote they had here, replanting them with Chardonnay making them the largest land owner of Corton Charlemagne today at 10.5 hectares. Their vineyard location is also standout, and all of their parcels are located in the prime parts of the vineyard with the best southeast exposure.
Fermentation here is straightforward with vinification in barrel, seeing fully malolactic fermentation and aging in new oak for 8 to 10 months.
2021 is a lovely example of this wine, and so good in this cooler vintage. A great note below from Burghound, we have friendly pricing on a limited amount, and it comes highly recommended for those that love Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru white, Burgundy clocking in a bit lower pricing than most examples but at no loss of quality.
Burghound 93 pts! "Thomas indicated that this had just been bottled and not surprisingly, there are notes of unabsorbed sulfur and reduction. More interesting are the dense but highly energetic, tautly muscular and mineral-driven middleweight plus flavors that flash excellent power on the compact, serious and built-to-age finale. Latour has a justly deserved reputation for this wine and the 2021 version should only add to it. (Drink starting 2031)"
