2022 E. Guigal Ermitage Blanc Ex-Voto

$219.99
2022 E. Guigal Ermitage Blanc Ex-Voto

We have a limited amount of the 2022 Ex Voto Blanc from Guigal, and while the La-Las often take the spotlight, this vintage of Ex Voto Blanc stands out as one of the finest white wines the estate has ever produced. Made only in the best years, the 2022 vintage offered ideal conditions—warm and dry with excellent phenolic ripeness—allowing Guigal to craft a wine of remarkable depth, precision, and aging potential. Sourced primarily from 100-year-old vines in Les Murets with a small portion from L’Ermite, the wine is composed of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne this vintage, fermented and aged for 30 months in 100% new oak. The result is a stunning expression of Hermitage Blanc, with intense aromatics of honeysuckle, roasted almonds, quince, and lanolin. On the palate, it’s powerful yet refined, with impeccable purity, layered texture, and a finish that goes on for minutes. This is a masterwork from Guigal, showcasing their complete command of Rhône terroir and unquestionably one of the white wines of the vintage.

Jeb Dunnuck 100 Points! "Coming from the Les Murets lieu-dit and 100-year-old vines, with 20% from L'Ermite, the 2022 Ermitage Ex-Voto Blanc is a heavenly white offering quince, candle wax, crushed stone, and orange blossom-like aromatics. Based on 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne and aged 24 months in new French oak, it shows incredible depth and purity, with full-bodied richness and a focused, balanced style. This monumental Hermitage needs a year or two and should have decades of longevity. Hermitage Blanc doesn't get any better! Drink 2025-2045.<!--more-->This reference point estate continues to produce brilliant wines, yet subtle, not insignificant changes are underway. First, there's a new Côte Rôtie La La in the lineup, the Côte Rôtie La Reynarde, created in honor of Philippe and Eve's twin sons, Etienne and Charles. Sourced from a small parcel in the Fongeant lieu-dit planted in 2015, it is 100% Syrah, not destemmed, and vinified with punch-downs only, similar to La Turque. It will see the same 40+ months in new barrels as its siblings. While 2022 will be the first vintage released, I've been lucky enough to taste this cuvée since 2019, and stylistically it fits nicely between La Turque and La Landonne, unquestionably meriting its place alongside the other La Las."
