We are down to the last of this great buy for GG Reisling for the 2022 vintage. This is a beautiful bottle that ranks up with some of the best of the year and is one of the top performers from Kunstler of all time. A perfect example of dry riesling but with a bit more density than we typically see, this leads to more of the powerful side but still has that soaring acidity we all love from these wines. A beautiful dynamic wine, and at a pricing lower than previous vintages, this is an excellent GG and one of the ultimate intersections of price and quality this year.
We have another incredible and rare wine from Kunstler, one of the great Rheingau producers. This time, it's the new release of the Hocheimer Holle, which was James Suckling's #1 German wine last vintage. The '22 is right there with the '21 this vintage, and at $10 less, it's a fantastic buy. As we have mentioned before in our previous offer, Kunstler is located in the famous village of Hochheim am Main and has been producing wine since 1648. These were once some of the most sought-after wines in the world, referenced in Shakperian texts and drawing attention from influential people like Thomas Jefferson, who made the voyage to visit this beautiful place. In 1965, the estate was reestablished by Franz Künstler and his son Gunter, who took over in the 90s. The estate is pushing for 100% Organic cultivation and farms 11 hectares organically, with other vineyards not seeing herbicide use since 1992. Like many German vineyards, this is a historic site and once belonged to the deanery of the Cathedral of Cologne before it was sold to the Archbishop of Mainz in 1273. It is a steep vineyard featuring clay, marl, and calcium deposits, making for wines with racy, mineral-rich acidity and a playful exchange of fruit and spice with a steak of power from the clay soil. It is reserved in youth but, given time, develops an unmatched synergy of flavor, body, minerality, and elegance. 2022 is one of the best examples of the Holle GG from Kunstler and, once again, one of the best buys of the vintage for Grosses Gewachs Riesling. We have low pricing on the only bottles available for the US right now, and it's not one to miss.
James Suckling 98 points! "Amazingly ripe and concentrated for a dry riesling, but this remains so precise and subtle, the underlying freshness making the ripe peach and apricot aromas so bright and enticing. Enormous power at the compact finish, but it’s so fresh and lively that the wine is anything but monumental, though the depth deserves that description. Enormous aging potential. Sustainable with FairChoice certification. Drink from release."
