These are the last bottles of Clos de Mouchere we have to offer from the great 2023 vintage, and this lot has just been released from the domaine! Henri Boillot's Clos de la Mouchere is one of the most consistent white wines in Burgundy, and the last several vintages have been stunning examples of this special piece of the Les Perriers vineyard. This Cuvee comes from 80+-year-old vines from a parcel within the premier cru vineyard, Les Perriers. Vines are densely planted at 10,000 vines per hectare, naturally limiting yields by forcing them to compete for nutrients, resulting in excellent concentration. The juice is aged in 70% new barrels, with the remaining portion aged in single-use barrels. 2023 is a promising vintage for white wines, with classic producers like Boillot working with the year's warmth to produce some outstanding bottles that can maybe be approached a bit earlier but still has fantastic structure for aging. Clos de la Mouchère is always one of the top premier crus in any given vintage and consistently receives a strong recommendation from us. The Clos de la Mouchere clearly shows its pedigree this year and is not one to miss!
Burghound 95 pts! This is even cooler and more restrained as the nose only grudgingly reveals its aromas of mineral reduction, green apple, spice, acacia blossom and a deft touch of wood. The gorgeously textured medium weight flavors brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract that buffers the youthfully austere and even more persistent finish. This too is very classy and a classic Clos de la Mouchère of grace and poise. If you can find it, buy it. (Drink starting 2035)
Jasper Morris 94-97 points! "A fuller yellow here, and an extra degree of completeness, more weight and almost all the class. The oak is still at 50% new and is very well integrated. Gorgeously rich, with little fruits dancing through a meadow. Once again, I do see the magic of this. Henri was strongly advised by his father to look after “Madame de la Mouchère”."
Antonio Galloni 93-95 points! "The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère 1er Cru is another very classy wine. Vertical in feel, the 2023 is super-bright from the outset. White pepper, flowers, mint, sage and pear reinforce that impression. Readers will find an airy, deceptively mid-weight Puligny that possesses remarkable depth."
