2023 Michael Franzese Dry White Wine (Armenia)

$19.99
2023 Michael Franzese Dry White Wine (Armenia)

Seeing how well the red we offered earlier this week did, we thought we would go out with the white wine today. As we said before, Armenian wines are not our go-to, but since we are always searching for great new values, this is another one that impressed us with its incredible price quality and is one of the best white wines we have offered in this price range.

The 2023 Michael Franzese Dry White Wine is a distinctive blend of 50% Kangun and 50% Voskehat, sourced from high-elevation (up to 6,000 feet), volcanic-soil vineyards in the Ararat Valley at the foot of Mount Arat, where vines average over 80 years in age. Wines have been made here for 6,000 years and both of these are traditional varietals that have a lot to say. Kangun, Armenia’s most widely planted white grape, is known for its floral aromatics, soft texture, and ability to retain freshness in warm climates. Voskehat, often called the “Queen of Armenian grapes,” brings structure and depth with notes of stone fruit, herbs, and a subtle mineral edge. Fermented and aged in traditional Armenian karasses (large clay amphorae), the wine reflects a low-intervention philosophy that enhances purity and texture. The 2023 vintage benefited from a long, even growing season, resulting in balanced ripeness and excellent aromatic clarity. The finished wine is expressive with notes of green apple, honey, wildflowers, and a touch of apricot interlaced with some exotic and tropical notes, which gives a ton of aromatic complexity. The palate is creamy and smooth, with good acidity, a layered, expressive profile, and a long finish. This lands between a Pinot Blanc from Alsace and Marsanne from the Northern Rhone. This incredible value captures the best of Armenia’s ancient white varieties and heritage winemaking and is highly recommended!
