We got acquainted with the Champagnes from Angelique Lacroix while in France earlier this year and were blown away by how good they were. This is a serious grower of Champagne, and all of the vineyards were bought in the 1950s by Angelique's paternal grandmother. In 1972, her father, Claude, took over and established the Domaine, which had 8 hectares of vineyards. Angelique Lacroix lived most of her young adult years in Paris, working in the perfume industry with a keen sense of smell. Naturally artistic, she felt a calling to the family domaine in Montigny-Sous-Chatillon in the Marne Valley, where she returned in 2010, insisting that she would launch her own brand. Since then, she has worked very hard in the vineyards and converted the domaine to organic viniculture. The results are spectacular, and the quality of the Champagne she produces at the price is astonishing. She recently received the Vigneron of Independence label since she does most of the work by herself. She has agreed to work with Envoyer Fine Wines as her agent in the USA, so we are excited to offer her wines at wholesale pricing to our customers.
L'Ecrin is 100% Pinot Meunier with Zero Dosage from a parcel of her oldest vines. This is Pinot Meunier at its finest, very Mouse Fils and Chartogne-Taillet-esque with explosive notes of exotic yellow fruits, soil tones, underbrush, and brioche. The pallet has incredible energy and lovely depth, with lingering notes of yeast, dry extract, and saline. This Champagne has won several awards from the French press, including a gold medal, and it's one of the best bottles of grower Champagne at this price point that you can get your hands on!
