NV Pierre Moncuit Champagne Grand Cru Cuvee Pierre Moncuit-Delos Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut$39.99
Pierre Moncuits Champagnes all come from a single vintage and village, there is no blending of reserve wines and there is no mixing of villages except in the case of their Rose. The Moncuit family can be traced back centuries and the brother and sister duo has upheld the same standards that their father put in place. The Delos comes from parcels in Mesnil-sur-Oger from vines that are 30+ years old which are very old by the area’s standards. The style of Pierre Moncuit is that of ultimate terrior expression and vintage nuance which is why nothing is blended. It is winemaker Nicole Moncuit's Philosophy that blending erases the sense of place and thumb print of the vintage away. It is this different interpretation of house style that makes Pierre Moncuit unique and instead of trying to recreate a Champagne to taste similar every vintage, they chose to show the vintage off. These Champagnes display an intense minerality, perfectly ripe fruit, and are an exercise in balance. There is two different versions of the Delos, and Extra Brut and a Brut with the former being the stronger bottling.
Antonio Galloni 94 points! "The NV (2015) Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Delos bristles with a palpable sense of energy and cut. Ample and generous on the palate, with terrific resonance the Delos marries the richness of the year with the focus of the low-dosage style. Citrus, baked apple and chamomile open up effortlessly. All the elements are in balance in this impeccable, focused Champagne from Moncuit. The Delos is a jewel of a wine. Don't miss it. Dosage is 3.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 2017."
