Romain Hénin’s L’Odyssée Pétillante – Chapitre 2 is a fascinating new-school Grower Champagne from Aÿ, made with an uncompromising focus on purity, vineyard expression, and minimal intervention. Romain represents the next generation of his family in Champagne. He has pushed his own project toward an extremely natural style, with Demeter-certified biodynamic vineyards, indigenous fermentations, barrel élevage, and no added dosage. Chapitre 2 comes entirely from the 2023 harvest and blends 50% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir, and 10% Chardonnay, giving the wine the generous fruit and texture of the two Pinots, with a small amount of Chardonnay for lift and precision. The wine was disgorged in December 2025 as Brut Nature with zero dosage, leaving the vintage's character fully exposed, similar to the wines of Benoit Marguet in philosophy but much brighter with a stronger focus on purity and freshness of fruit. It is wonderfully vinous and energetic, with ripe citrus, fresh apple and orchard fruit joined by subtle pastry, chalk and a distinctly saline mineral quality. The palate has excellent texture, but the zero dosage keeps everything dry, focused, and remarkably refreshing. This is a very distinctive bottle from one of Champagne’s more adventurous young growers and a great example of the increasingly exciting, vineyard-driven style emerging from the Grande Vallée de la Marne.
