An excellent buy for Meursault, while this is only a village wine it is, an exceptional example of the Tesson vineyard made by Philippe Fichet of the Coche family. A rare find we have a limited amount of this one still available which are some of the only bottles in the world right now and slightly cheaper than Fichet's bottling but every bit as good.
We have another rare insider Burgundy buy today from Domaine Saint Germes. While this estate may not be well known, they supply a few producers with their excellent fruit and bottle a select amount of the harvest. In the case of the Tesson, Domaine Saint-Germes has a sharecropping agreement with Phillippe Fichet of the Coche-Dury family. Fichet manages the vineyards, does the harvest, and makes the wine, giving a percentage of the fruit back to the domaine. Tesson is considered one of the best Meursault Village wines, and this is a fantastic example from vines planted in 1949, 1965, and 1976. This site has an eastern orientation giving it excellent exposure, and the soil here is very shallow lava rock subsoil that gradually turns to a nice mix of clay and limestone further up the hill. This site is also at the same elevation as many of the best Meursault vineyards. Tesson is a unique site and is considered by Fichet to be the quintessence of Meursault producing elegant wines with tremendous mineral drive and complexity not found in other sites of this level. This can be considered the same wine as the Fichet bottling, with the Saint-Germes bottling clocking in at slightly lower pricing and is much rarer. 2017 is a great vintage for white Burgundy, making this an excellent example of Tesson at very reasonable pricing, and we have the only bottles of this wine available in the USA right now.
