$49.99
2021 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
Our last bottles of The 2021 Montee de Tonnerre have been the favorite here from Louis Michel for many years, and 2021 looks to be another fantastic addition to the history of this Domaine. This is a bit more classic and is going to reward with patience in the cellar, but even still, it is one of the top buys of the vintage for MDT. We have a very limited amount at this friendly price, so grab them while you can!

We have the new vintage of Louis Michel's incredible Montee de Tonnerre, and 2021 is another incredible year for this much-loved cuvee. The Montee de Tonerre from Louis Michel has been one of the most consistent best buys for Premier Cru Chablis over the years, and 2021 is another incredible example. Chablis has been hit with many warm vintages over the past few years, and while some of them have classical elements, the 2021s, being a much cooler year, is a much more true-to-form example of the classic style of Chablis with high-acid wines that captured the unique characters of terroir. This cooler vintage will pair very well with the pure and calculated style of Louis Michel, and it looks like this will be another top example of the vintage from winemaker Guillaume Michel.
Louis Michel's portion of the Montee de Tonnerre was planted in 1974, giving the wine an old vine concentration, power, and complexity that will pair well with this vintage. Once again, this is an outstanding wine from Louis Michel and one of the top examples of the vintage for Montee de Tonnerre and will do very well with some cellar time. This is up there with the very best of the vintage, and for perspective, John Gilman gave Raveaneau's Montee de Tonnerre (which is more than 10 times the price) a 94+, and Decanter gave it a 95, making Louis Michel the ultimate buy. Once again, we have friendly pricing on this fantastic premier cru, and it is a not to miss bottle of Chablis this vintage.

John Gilman 94 points! "The 2021 Montée de Tonnerre from Guillaume Michel is also an outstanding wine in the making, but this is the most reserved of all the range of just-bottled premier crus and clearly will demand some cellaring before it starts to hit on all cylinders. With a bit of swirling, the wine offers up a complex nose of lemon, lime, green apple, beeswax, a complex base of limestone minerality, dried flowers and a topnote of citrus zest. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with excellent cut and grip, fine focus and a very long, mineral-driven and well-balanced finish. There is a lovely touch of salinity to the expression of minerality here that reflects the low yields and the excellent potential inherent in the wine this year. (Drink between 2026 - 2050)"

Decanter (Andy Howard MW) 94 points! "Louis Michel's Montée de Tonnerre comes from the south-west facing slopes of Chapelot. A more serious premier cru with extra density on the palate. Beautifully clean and fresh. This will need several years to blossom. Keep for another three to five years and then drink over the following decade. Delivers all that Montée de Tonnerre is renowned for. (Drink between 2026 - 2032)"
