We have a rare premier cru gem from Chassagne-Montrachet today, which is due to arrive this spring. Joseph Colin is part of the famed Colin family of Chassagne-Montrachet—Son of the revered Marc Colin and younger brother of the great Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. Joseph is naturally a great winemaker, taking over Domaine Marc Colin with his two siblings at the young age of 19. Like Pierre-Yves, Joseph took part of his father's Domaine to start his own journey with about 6 hectares acquired. The plots he was given were some of the best Chardonnay plots in Burgundy, with fantastic parcels in En Remilly, which, as many know, is one of the greatest vineyards in Saint-Aubin, a high elevation and rocky site located a little more than 200 feet from Le Montrachet. Colin has vines in all three of the plots in Saint Aubin, giving his cuvee a complete expression of the vineyard as a whole, and it is magnificent in 2022 with one of the best examples he's ever made. It's a fantastic cuvee from a long lineage of outstanding winemaking that fans of white Burgundy will love.
Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 91-93 points! "Joseph has vines in three sectors of En Remilly, on the plateau, low down by the main road and in Les Cortons. Pale lemon and lime. The bouquet is sunny rather than angular, but not roasted. Very complete in the mouth, just enough flesh, an acidity which avoids impinging to forcefully, so a more flattering texture and a fine long finish."
