We have been following these wines for years, and they continue to be incredible white burgundy values. Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon is the Maconnais project of master winemaker Dominque Lafon of Domaine Lafon. His ambition brought new light to Macon, where wines were traditionally simple and overlooked. His implementation of biodynamics on higher altitude old vine parcels, in this case over 35 years old with aging in larger neutral oak barrels, uncovered a complexity and freshness that Dominique knew was in the soil and vines. Dominique has passed the Domaine torch to his apprentice, Caroline Gon, who has done an impressive job of sticking to the Lafon Philosophy. We usually offer the Vire-Clesse, the Macon Milly-Lamartine, a small parcel located in the southwestern part of Macon not far from the villages of Vire and Clesse, is also an excellent wine and comes in at slightly lower pricing. This is from an east-facing vineyard grown on a steep, very rocky limestone slope with a thin layer of clay topsoil. It is an excellent white Burgundy rich with beautiful ripe yellow fruit, complemented by wonderful acidity and minerality; it's a joy to drink. 2022 is another incredible value from this great address and is not a bottle to miss for the savvy or inexperienced Burgundy drinker, with some cross-over appeal for domestic Chardonnay lovers.
