2022 Domaine Pierre Guillemot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières is exactly the kind of red Burgundy value that has become increasingly difficult to find: old-school, domaine-grown, expressive, and still priced far below comparable premier cru bottlings from more famous villages. The Pierre Guillemot Serpentières has always been one of our best-selling premier cru red Burgundies, but it has become harder to source at good pricing. We are very happy to have procured a few cases of the 2022, which is among the domaine’s best efforts of all time. The Guillemot family has worked vines in Savigny for eight generations, and Les Serpentières has long been one of the estate’s signature wines, combining Savigny’s rustic charm with real finesse and surprising aging ability. The 2022 vintage offers the best of both worlds, with the generosity and balance to drink well young, but also the structure and freshness to age beautifully. Coming from sixty-plus-year-old vines and made with some whole cluster fruit, this shows concentrated red cherry, sweet berry, spice, floral notes, classic underbrush, and mineral depth, all framed by fine tannins and a solid core of fruit. William Kelley’s note below helps validate what we have been saying for years, and this is simply a great buy that is starting to show very well now!
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 93+ pts! "Aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, rose petals, licorice and spices introduce Guillemot's emblematic 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Serpentières, a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless wine that's fleshy, concentrated and vibrant, with a layered, complete profile and a long, bright finish. It's a lovely wine that will offer a broad drinking window."
