$39.99
2018 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre
We have just a few cases left of this client favorite Chablis from Louis Michel. Always one of the top selections from Louis Michel in any given vintage, the 2018s MDT is a great wine, and with the little extra age in the bottle, it is better than it was on release. For years this has been the top seller for Chablis, and 2018 has been one of the most noteworthy vintages to date with an excellent balance between power and elegance. 2018 is showing well now but will continue to develop for years to come.

The gem of the Domaine Louis Michel's Montee de Tonnerre is one of our favorite wines from Chablis. Flowing beautifully from start to finish with layers of ripe citrus, flower petals, and minerality. Louis Michels portion of the vineyard was planted in 1974, giving the wine an old vine concentration and slightly richer profile, which is the perfect balance between Chablis's often lighter and high-acid style and, in a vintage like 2018, very powerful. One of the best price-quality buys for this very sought after cru we have a few cases that just arrived and are available at their original release price. A must for the Chablis lover, and if you missed out or already drank your '18s, here's the chance to get some more.

John Gilman 94 points! "Not surprisingly, the 2018 Montée de Tonnerre is one of the more structured premier crus in the cellars this year and it will want some bottle age to start to stir. The potential here is excellent, with the very pure and precise nose offering up scents of green apple, smoke, flinty minerality, citrus zest, spring flowers and a hint of the beeswax to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with an excellent core of fruit, fine transparency and grip, snappy acids and a long, soil-driven and vibrant finish. This is a first class example."

Antonio Galloni 92-94 points! "The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is the most elegant and precise of the premiers crus in this range. Silky, floral and refined, the 2018 possesses striking nuance and total class. Lemon confit, wild flowers, white pepper and saline notes add freshness. More than anything else, the Montée de Tonnerre impresses with its saline-infused tension and persistence. Even in this warm vintage, it retains terrific energy and cut. I loved it."

Vinous (Neil Martin) 93 points! "The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre is clean and precise on the nose, perhaps more in the vein of a traditional Chablis than, say, the Butteaux. The palate is fresh and lively with crisp acidity, impressive tension and a twist of sour lemon toward the finish that keeps this Chablis alert and alive. Excellent."

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 92+ points! "The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another success this year, delivering inviting aromas of citrus zest, crisp green apple, white flowers and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, with good depth and tension, it's one of the more tightly wound, structured wines in the cellar."
