One of our best selling premier cru red Burgundy's, we have a few cases of this remaining with more due to arrive next month. The 2019 Les Brouillards is an excellent buy and is one of the best values in the category. While not a widely known address, Glantenay has impressed us with the past few vintages and is a producer making great wine at reasonable pricing.

The 2019 Domaine Glantenay Volany 1er Cru Les Brouillard is a stunning bottle. We just received our shipment and had to try a bottle to check it out since it's one of the first 2019's premier crus we have received. As we mentioned below, 2015 of the same wine was one of our best sellers from that vintage, but 2019 is even better. The big difference is that 2019 has more depth and rare material than 2015 did at the same juncture. 2019 has aromas of blue and red fruit, violets, garrigue, underbrush, spice. The palate shows serious pedigree with flavors of blue and fruit fruits, liquid minerals, cooking spices, salinity, all perfectly balanced with the tannins buried in the ample fruit. If you were going to buy one 2019 red Burgundy this vintage, you would be hard-pressed to find a better wine for the price-quality.
All I can say is Bravo, Don't miss it!
We just got word that the 2019 rendition of this bottle should be arriving in a few months, and we are very excited to get our hands on some. Glantenay has quickly become one of the top under-the-radar producers that we offer, fashioning very classic, beautiful wines available at great pricing. Even though it was founded in 1893, this Domaine is a hidden gem that is just starting to get noticed. The Domaine is now in its 4th generation, run by Guillaume and Sarah Glantenay, where they farm 8 hectares of vines sustainably, making as little impact as possible regarding the land. This duo does tons of work in the vineyards pruning, de-budding, green harvesting, and supporting biodiversity in the vineyards letting wild grasses, herbs, and flowers thrive between the vines, which is plowed to create a rich humus that helps support the vines. During harvest, two strict selections are made, once in the vineyard and then at the Domaine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with about 30% whole cluster, aged in mostly older barrels for 10-18 months, racked using the traditional broquereau method, and bottled with gravity at the Domaine. The Broiullards is a fantastic bottle from this address from vines that reach 70 years old and are planted to 10,000 vines per hectare which is very dense. We can't wait for 2019, it is only $10 more a bottle than the 2015 we sold over 100 cases of, and we have a sneaking suspicion that this will be incredible. The 2019 Brouillards is an excellent bottle for the Red Burgundy drinker and an excellent option for those looking to explore some of the off-the-beaten-path producers of the region from the next great vintage.
Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 91-94 points! "The vines date back to 1950 (0.83ha) and 1999 (0.27ha). Clear bright purple. The nose is especially heady, actually the most interesting of the three Volnay 1ers crus. Les Brouillards ripens later than its neighbours Les Angles and Fremiers. Superbly succulent, with a beautiful juicy deep black and red fruit. Good length."
Allen Meadows 91-93 points! "A much more floral-inflected nose exhibits notes of violet, lavender and rose petal along with those of black cherry and plum. The texture of the medium-bodied flavors is a combination of power and refinement with an almost pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the firm and chiseled but not really austere finale. This too is really quite lovely and very Volnay - recommended."
Vinous (Neil Martin) 91-93 points! "The 2019 Volnay Les Brouillards 1er Cru, which includes around 25% whole bunch fruit, has an open and transparent nose of brambly red fruit laced with sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit laced with graphite. This is taut and fresh, a Volnay belying the warmth of the growing season with a vivacious, limestone-driven finish. Classic in style, this Volnay should give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure."
