We were able to get a little more of one of our client-favorite champagnes, and this time it is in magnum—a format people have absolutely loved for Cuvée Prestige. We recently tasted it from magnum ourselves and were reminded how good this wine can be, with the larger format adding depth, texture, and harmony while preserving the freshness and precision that define Diebolt-Vallois. Cuvée Prestige has long been a favorite, sitting perfectly between the regular Blanc de Blancs and the more prestigious Fleur de Passion, and in many ways it drinks like a younger sibling to that flagship wine. It is made entirely from Chardonnay sourced from the Grand Cru villages of Cramant, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, with older reserve wine from the domaine’s solera adding additional complexity and breadth. The chalky soils of these great Côte des Blancs sites give the wine tremendous mineral focus, while a touch of oak brings enough roundness to keep it from ever feeling austere. Finished at a low dosage of around 4 g/L, the wine is crisp, layered and beautifully saline, with impressive clarity and length. Cuvée Prestige has long been one of the best values in Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, and out of magnum it is even more so: a great cellar bottle, but already absolutely delicious to drink now! A great holiday party bottle!
Vinous 92 pts! The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Prestige is based 51% on the 2020 vintage, 33% on 2018, with the rest from a perpetual reserve containing vintages 2009 through 2019 from three grands crus: Cramant, Chouilly and Le Mesnil sur Oger. It spent three years on lees and opens with a bright, appetizing note of Golden Delicious flesh bathed in lemon. The slender palate pitches itself against a lovely background of dried corn husk and subtle creaminess, supported by tiny fine bubbles that disperse the luminous lemon freshness. This is lovely now, but every month of bottle age will make it creamier. Dosage is 4 grams per liter."
