2012 Pol Roger Champagne Blanc de Blancs

$109.99
2012 Pol Roger Champagne Blanc de Blancs

Today, we have an excellent Blanc de Blancs from the 2012 vintage. The Chardonnay for this cuvee is sourced exclusively from Grand Cru villages in the Côte des Blancs, including Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, and Oger. Produced only in top years, this cuvée reflects Pol Roger’s commitment to age-worthy, terroir-driven blanc de blancs. The 2012 vintage saw a challenging growing season, with spring frosts and summer hail reducing yields, but a warm, dry August resulted in concentrated, high-quality fruit. Fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic conversion and aged for five years on lees before disgorgement, it offers remarkable depth and precision. Very focused and tactile, it is vibrant yet creamy, with a delicate but powerful finish. This is drinking very well now after some extra time in the bottle and is an excellent buy for Blanc de Blancs at this low pricing.

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 94 points! "Disgorged in March 2017, the 2012 Brut Blanc de Blancs is excellent, delivering a complex bouquet of warm pastry, dried white flowers, lemon oil and some smoky, gently reductive top notes. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a rich but precise core of fruit that reveals all the concentration of the vintage but is elegantly rendered, underpinned by tangy acids and concluding with a precise, chalky finish."

Wine Enthusiast (Roger Voss) 94 points! "This beautifully balanced wine aligns the tautness of the Chardonnay with swathes of rich apple and lime flavors. It is vibrant, still ripe with freshness and acidity. Drink now."

James Suckling 94 points! "Such wonderful transparency and clarity in its nature with lightly cooked apples and chalk. Some white pepper. Full body. Totally integrated fruit and acidity and a long and flavorful finish. Love the brightness. Drink now."
