2013 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut

$179.99
2013 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut

We have a limited amount of 2013 Taittinger today at the same pricing as last time! The Comtes de Champagne has always been one of the top buys for Tete de Cuvees from the Grand Marque Houses and, to this day, remains slightly undervalued compared to its peers. Its pricing is typically one of the most reasonable of the big houses. Comtes is made with 100% Chardonnay from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs region, including Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, and Mesnil-sur-Oger villages Oger, which have some of the best soils for growing Chardonnay. 2013 is a Chardonnay vintage through and through, and while 2012 was energetic and fresh, this is the complete package, showing the quality of the vintage with sensational depth and complexity. This vintage of Comtes is firing on all cylinders and is an incredible iteration of this Champagne on par with the best this house has produced, including 2008, 2006, 2002, and 2000. We tasted this next to the 1996, and it was so impressive, and even in this early stage, it was hard not to call it the winner. It's flat out the best young Comtes we have ever tasted. This cooler, high-acid vintage is showing well now and can be enjoyed straight out of the gates; however, it is still classic with excellent structure that should prove fantastic with time in the cellar. This is what we expect from Taittinger, and it is one of the wines of the vintage for 2013 Champagne. Just a point lower than the 2013 Salon, but at a fraction of the price, it is a Champagne we cannot recommend enough, especially at this special price!

Antonio Galloni 98 points! "The 2013 Comtes de Champagne captures all the pedigree of this great vintage in its energy, depth and vibrancy. Lemon confit, dried flowers, chamomile, spice and crushed rocks all race across the palate. Passionfruit, ginger, marzipan and mint appear later, filling out the layers beautifully. Harvest took place in October in what has become the exception rather than the norm in Champagne. (Drink between 2023-2043)"

James Suckling 98 points! "Nervy and tight with notes of crushed almonds, chalk, white grapefruit, digestive biscuits, lemons and apricot stones. Hints of fennel and white pepper. Deep and mineral, with plenty of power. Very fine bubbles. Long drive at the end. Try after 2024."
