2023 A. et P. de Villaine Aligoté Bouzeron

$39.99
2023 A. et P. de Villaine Aligoté Bouzeron

When someone from a fantastic lineage chooses to turn its back on the pressure of style and of arguably one of the greatest domains in all of Burgundy, you'd have Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de Villaine. Originally the heir apparent to Domaine Romanee Conti, de Villane set out to venture into the unlikely and often overlooked village of Bouzeron. His goal with this decision was to produce high-quality wine the way he wanted, without any of the demands that Burgundy usually imposes. The results of his sacrifices are long-time certified organic vines and a low-yielding crop of beautiful, concentrated fruit and transparency. Winemakers who take risks, like de Villaine, are ultimately what puts the overlooked on the map. With the help of those like de Villaine, we now know that in the hands of a skilled artisan, these vineyards can produce stunning wines. This is a new release of one of the finest Aligotes in Burgundy, sourced directly from the domaines holdings and from a vintage that turned out exceptionally well for the Côte Chalonnaise. 2023 is one of the best examples of Bouzeron ever. Very fresh, with white fruit and intense minerality, this is great now but will continue to prove itself over the next handful of years. We have a limited amount arriving in the Fall at this great pricing, and it's not one to miss!

Vinous (Neil Martin) 91 points! "he 2023 Bouzeron has a vivacious nose that boldly declares, "I am Aligoté!" The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity and beautiful weight in the mouth, featuring hints of lemon curd, white peach and Anjou pear toward the poised finish. You'll find few Bouzerons better than this. (Drink between 2025-2035)"

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) points! "Pale lemon and lime. Backward, showing density, some opulence, but not too much, with crystalline clarity behind. Extra tension, and very long indeed. Different layers of fruit wash over the back of the palate."
