John Gilman 95 pts! Christoffel’s 2002 UW spätlese is one of the finest young examples of the genre that I have ever had the pleasure to taste. This wine delivers a stunning synthesis of ethereal weightlessness and outstanding intensity of flavor and complexity. The nose soars from the glass in a melange of wild strawberries, kiwi, lime zest, loads of slate, delicate notes of petrol and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is medium-weight and quite classically proportioned and succulent on the attack, with fine depth at the core and excellent focus. However, from the mid-palate back this wine moves from excellent to legendary in proportion, with transporting length, grip and intensity on the backend. How a middle Mosel this classically delicate and ethereal can deliver such length and intensity on the finish is beyond my comprehension. This is an utterly brilliant young wine that humbles while it seduces. (Drink between 2005 - 2025)
