2020 Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco Toscana IGT

$59.99
2020 Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco Toscana IGT

After selling out of this fantastic Tuscan best buy, we secured a little more of the 2020 Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco at the same special low price. Sammarco is one of Tuscany’s great Cabernet-driven wines and remains a signature bottling from this historic Panzano estate, which has farmed biodynamically for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with Sangiovese and Merlot adding freshness, energy, and unmistakable Tuscan character to Cabernet’s natural depth and structure. The wine spends about three months in concrete, followed by 12 to 15 months in tonneaux and larger oak before extended bottle aging. The 2020 is an especially impressive vintage for Sammarco, showing dark cherry and blackberry, graphite, dried herbs, cedar and subtle spice, carried by firm but polished tannins and excellent freshness. It has serious concentration, focus, and long-term aging potential, but what makes Sammarco so compelling is that it never loses its sense of place despite the Bordeaux varieties in the blend. This is a serious, cellar-worthy Super Tuscan from one of Panzano’s benchmark estates, and after selling through our last parcel, we are very happy to have more at this special low price and it remains one of the best Tuscan buys at this level!

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 96 pts! The Castello dei Rampolla 2020 Sammarco is a celebrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese from beautiful Panzano in Chianti. This is an abundant and explosive expression that delivers beautiful intensity with sharp black fruits backed by a mineral or metallic note of iron ore or rusty nail. The wine remains very focused and direct over a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel with velvety tannins.

Antonio Galloni 95 pts! The 2020 Sammarco is all finesse. Silky and understated in feel, the 2020 offers up scents of dark fruit, graphite, incense, new leather and dried herbs. Vibrant acids extend the mid-palate and finish. What a beauty. The 2020 is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 3% Sangiovese. It spent 12 months in wood—barrique and tonneau for the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and 12HL cask for the Sangiovese. (Drink between 2027 - 2040)
