Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil is a new domaine we have not worked with before, but after tasting this Chorgon, we thought we would give it a spin. The domaine has remained in the same family for three generations and today farms holdings across Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Chorey-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune. Les Bons Ores is a 100% Pinot Noir bottling that captures exactly what makes Chorey-lès-Beaune such a great source for affordable Burgundy: generous red fruit, supple structure and plenty of Côte de Beaune finesse without the pricing attached to its more famous Côte de Nuits neighbors. We just tasted the 2023 and found it to be a very pretty, elegant example, with fresh cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit, subtle floral notes and a lovely sense of place. There is nothing exaggerated here, showing textbook Burgundy character, with bright acidity, silky tannins, and a gently mineral, red-fruit finish that keeps the wine fresh and balanced. It's not a bottle that is going to blow your socks off with sheer power or concentration, nor is it trying to, but at this price point it is an absolutely lovely bottle of Burgundy and exactly the sort of wine we enjoy finding—honest, elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir that overdelivers for the money.
