We have a case of this beautiful back vintage from Pape Clement, which are in excellent condition (pictured above). An old address located in Pessac Leognan, Pape Clement, has been making wine since 1252, though at the time, the Chateau was called Domaine de la Mothe. In 1306 the Chateau was gifted to Pope Clement V by the owner and relative, Gaillard de Goth, which is the inspiration for the Chateau's name. In the 1980s, the Chateau saw an upsurge in quality after being picked up by a French entrepreneur and owner of numerous chateaus, Bernard Magrez. Since that time, the wines of Pape Clement have never been better, and today they are still riding that wave, producing notable wines as one of the most important of the 16 Chateaus of the Cru Classe de Graves. 1985 is the greatest vintage from Pape Clement during the 80s and is a magnificent example of the vintage and Chateau. 1985 was a great vintage for Right Bank, with appellations like Pessac Leognan, Medoc, and Pomerol performing sensationally. This is a fantastic example of the vintage and is incredibly deep and structured with stunning complexity. This is classic right bank Bordeaux, and as you can see from the picture above, the bottles are in fantastic condition. This is one to enjoy not but still has plenty of life left for a stay in the cellar. This is an incredible buy from this vintage, and we have a limited amount at this excellent pricing.
John Gilman 94 points! "The 1985 Pape Clément is an outstanding example of the vintage. The beautiful bouquet is a complex and very refined blend of black cherries, gentle meatiness, nutskin, a marvelously complex base of dark soil tones, cigar smoke, herbs and a deft touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, poised and velvety, with a great core of fruit, melting tannins, tangy acids and outstanding length and grip on the complex and utterly classic finish. What a great era for this iconic property, which has so sadly lots its way in recent times. (Drink between 2014-2045)"
