2008 Pierre Moncuit Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Nicole Moncuit Vieille Vigne

$144.99
2008 Pierre Moncuit Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Nicole Moncuit Vieille Vigne

These are the last bottles of the 2008 Cuvee Nicole Moncuit we have in stock, and it's a not-to-miss bottle of one of the top buys for '08 Grower Champagne. The champagnes from Pierre Moncuit are exceptional and is one of our clients' favorite addresses. Located in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Pierre Moncuit has been making Champagnes for over a century. While Pierre is no longer with us, his daughter, Nicole Moncuit, and his granddaughter, Valérie, carry the torch of this superb Champagne house. Nicole was one of the first and remains one of the few female winemakers in Champagne, inspiring her daughter and, hopefully, other young women to take on the profession. The Champagnes are essentially styled after Nicole's interpretation of the vintage and don't follow any strict guidelines. To her, it is all about the Terroir, the Grape, the vintage, and their interplay, which requires immense skill and expertise. Every vintage has the potential to be treated differently, and it's always exciting to experience it through Nicole's eyes by enjoying her Champagnes.

While we offer the Champagnes from Pierre Moncuit every year, we rarely ever get to offer the House's top Champagne, Cuvee Nicole Moncuit VV. The Cuvee Nicole is the pinnacle of expression from Moncuit and Nicole's ultimate view of the vintage, crafted from 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay sourced from the prestigious vineyard Les Chetillons, featuring the oldest vines on the property, which are over 90 years old. While most producers are focusing on more recent vintages, the 2008 vintage was recently released by Moncuit and is the best example of this cuvée ever. Nicole ages this Champagne for much longer than her other bottlings to build incredible complexity, and it is the most limited Champagne that Moncuit produces. The 2008 is a very nuanced and detailed Champagne that continually reveals something new with each revisit to the glass, and it's genuinely one of the most exceptional examples Nicole has ever made, finished with a low 3g/l dosage. This is an outstanding bottle from this top vintage and one of the best buys for 2008 Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs. Grab a bottle while you can!

James Suckling 98 pts! Orange rind and spices, such as cardamom on the nose, together with sourdough and fresh fig . Some salted butter, too. It's creamy, supple and silky, with a salty freshness. Soft bubbles. Long and chalky finish. 100% chardonnay from 90-year-old vines. Base wine fermented in stainless steel. Only made in exceptional vintages. Disgorged after 15 years on lees with 5g/L dosage. Drink or hold.
