Piper's Rare series is one of the staples of Grande Marque Champagne, and we have a few cases to offer today at this special low pricing. Only made in the best vintages, it is a Champagne that we have had the pleasure of trying every iteration. The Rare Rose is a much more limited cuvee from Piper Heidsieck and might even be our favorite of the two rare cuvees. 2014 is the fourth vintage to have been made of the Rare Rose. While it is a newer cuvee compared to the regular Rare bottling, it is exceptional and made with the same mastery that former Chef de Cave Regis Camus has instituted, which is now perpetuated by the new Chef de Cave Emilien Boutillat. 2014 was a great vintage, especially for the Montagne de Reims, where the majority of the fruit is sourced from, and while is isn't a super concentrated vintage, Emilien was able to pull every ounce of energy and intensity out of the year with an example that is most certainly on par with the fantastic 2007. This Grand Marque Rose has quickly solidified itself among the greats like Krug, Dom Perignon, and Cristal Rose and does it at a slightly lower price point. It is one of the best buys for Grande Marque Rose Champagne and another fantastic example from Piper.
Jeb Dunnuck 96 pts! The 14th vintage of Rare, the 2014 Champagne Millésime Rosé has 9 grams per liter dosage, and most of the Pinot Noir in it comes from Verzy, with the red wine coming from Les Ricey. Pouring a brilliant orange/pink hue, the wine is juicy and fresh with aromas of wild strawberry tart, graham, blood orange, and a hint of cardamom. Medium to full-bodied, its mousse is inviting and adds just a hint of spice character, with notes of grapefruit pith on the finish. A bit more reserved on opening, it will benefit with more time to open and show its best, but it has a very attractive structure. Drink 2025-2040. (Drink between 2025 - 2040)
