The 2015 Brouillards is a wine that our clients raved about and is a top-price-quality buy for the vintage. With pricing getting higher and higher, it makes sense to buy something that shows better and at a lower cost like this one. These are the only bottles of 2015 available in the world and once again are highly recommended.
Although it was founded in 1893 by Pierre Glantenay, this Domaine is a hidden gem just beginning to be discovered. The Domaine is now in its 4th generation, run by Guillaume and Sarah Glantena, farming 8 hectares via sustainable agriculture, with the utmost respect for the terroir. They take meticulous care of their vineyards with pruning, de-budding, green harvesting, letting the grasses, herbs, and flowers grow between the rows before plowing them over to create natural humus to nourish the vines. When the harvest comes, they make a strict selection in the vineyard and again at the winery to ensure the highest quality of fruit. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel vats with about 30% whole cluster fruit. After primary fermentation, they move the wines into oak barrels, with a small percentage of new oak aging between 10 to 18 months, depending on the appellation.
I tasted through a lineup of their 2017s, which were quite lovely, but the wine for me was the 2015 Volnay 1er Les Brouillard. It was the most remarkable example I have ever tasted from this vineyard, even better than the Regis Rossignol version that we sometimes import. The Glantenay's only own one-hectare plot of Brouillard, but it is a prized site with 55 to 80+ year old vines.
It is an outstanding 2015 with incredible depth, power, and elegance like the most exceptional red Burgundies can possess, showing aromas of ripe red and black fruits, tree bark, and earth. The palate has incredible depth, with blue and red fruits, grilled meats, savory herbs, and a forest floor. The finish is long and leaves lots of dry extract with lingering fruit and mineral nuances in the mouth. This tremendous juice is approachable now, and with the few extra years since our last offer, it should be showing even better than before, with the potential to last another decade in the cellar. This is an excellent read Burgundy and not one to miss rivaling the best addresses of Volnay at less than ½ their current prices!

John Gilman 92 pts! "Bernard Glantenay’s rows of vines in les Brouillards lie right alongside of those of Louis Boillot and are sixty years of age. The 2015 included one-third whole clusters and is excellent, wafting from the glass in a refined blend of sweet dark berries, black cherries, French Roast, dark soil tones and incipient notes of pigeon. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully sappy at the core, with beautiful balance and nascent complexity, fine-grained tannins and a long, tangy and focused finish.
