2016 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Domaine Louis Jadot

$189.99
2016 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Domaine Louis Jadot

We have a limited amount of the 2016 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot, which comes from the Domaines' own holdings within the walled Grand Cru vineyard, reflecting both the pedigree of this historic site and the strength of a classic vintage. Louis Jadot has been a benchmark in Burgundy since 1859, and their domaine holdings in Clos Vougeot—about 2.1 hectares in the upper and mid-slope sections near the château—are among the most favorably positioned. 2016 was a low-yielding but excellent vintage, marked by a cool growing season and late-season ripening, producing wines with fine structure, balance, and aging potential. Jadot’s approach combines traditional vinification in open wooden vats, followed by 18 to 20 months of élevage in French oak (around 50% new), resulting in a wine of power and precision. The 2016 Clos Vougeot shows dark red fruit, crushed stone, and spice, with muscular tannins and a long, savory finish—built for the cellar but already showing remarkable clarity and class.

Burghound 93 points! "An intensely earthy nose offers a wide range of red berry aromas and is surrounded by just enough wood to mention. The muscular large-scaled flavors possess a rounded and relatively supple mid-palate that contrasts with the robust, serious, rustic and youthfully austere finish. I like the depth as well as the persistence that makes clear that this too is going to require extended cellaring if you wish to see it at its peak."

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 93 points! "The 2016 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing well from bottle, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully primary bouquet of ripe cherries, red berries, candied peel and cassis that's subtly framed by some nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny textured, its broad-shouldered chassis of impressively fine-grained tannin cloaked in a succulent, even tangy core of vibrant fruit, concluding with a long and nicely defined finish. While the structure is sufficiently refined that drinking a glass now isn't a brutalizing experience, a decade of patience is recommended."
