We seem to offer more back vintages from Michel Gaunoux, but here is a more recent release from one of their strongest vineyards. Michel Gaunoux, as many of our clients know, is a very traditional producer in Pommard that has a knack for making wines that love extended cellar time. These are typically only released when the family decides, which is usually when they are showing nicely. 2018 was a magnificent vintage for Michel Gaunoux, and their traditional style meshed with the riper and more powerful vintage is nothing short of spectacular, and this is one of the buys of the vintage. The 2018 Pommard Rugiens ranks among the top efforts ever for Michel Gaunoux and is a bottle that will supply enjoyment for decades. We have direct winery pricing on some of the only bottles in the USA, which is going for $150 in a few other countries. An excellent buy for traditional Red Burgundy, and as Allen Meadows says below, a picture perfect Rugiens.
Allen Meadows 95 points! "A cooler and more elegant nose is dazzlingly pure with its elegant aromas of anise, essence of violet and rose petal, black cherry and an interesting hint of Asian-style tea. There is excellent power and underlying tension to the large-scaled flavors that possess a positively gorgeous mouthfeel while exhibiting stunningly good length on the stony, detailed and compact finale. This is picture perfect Rugiens."
