One of the top Addresses in Chateauneuf du Pape that we offer every year, Clos des Papes, is one of the names that put the region on the map. To this day, Clos de Papes continues as one of the best buys for CDP, upholding a very high level of quality that must represent the region and the Clos des Papes name. Clos des Papes was certified organic in 2011, and it is their diligent vineyard management, coupled with their classical winemaking that keeps them in the forefront. 2019 is another excellent vintage for Clos des Papes, earning a huge note from Decanter. Clos de Papes made a classic wine in a difficult vintage, and while this is going to need some cellar time, it should prove to be heroic.
Decanter 98 points! "Bright and floral on the nose. The tannins are extremely fine, almost imperceptible, but very much present, giving the wine a strong base for long ageing. It's perfectly balanced, long and deep, resulting in a rich but surprisingly classic vintage of Clos des Papes considering the extreme conditions this year. Rich but bright, very complete and pure with no excesses. Vines are typically 30 to 40 years old, spread across 24 parcels. Matured for 12 months in foudres of at least four years of age."
